In an attempt to curb my spending, I am working on using up everything I have and only buying replacements when absolutely necessary. This goes for all beauty and household items because Lord knows I can open my own general store with the amount of stuff I have. I almost feel like my grandma, like I'm a hoarder. And if y'all know grandma (bless her soul) she NEVER throws anything away. I do not want to be like that at all. I finally have a spacious apartment and there is no reason it needs to be cluttered with things. I have 3 closets, which is rare for an NYC apartment, and there is no reason they all need to be filled to the brim. I know I start off really strong and then my willpower peters out, but I finally got fed up with everything I have and started to purge. Even tonight before I sat down to write this, I tossed 22 lip and brow products. Yes, you read that right 22! And I still have MORE. It's exhausting trying to keep up with everything.
Since starting this at the beginning of February, I have been able to empty some shampoo and conditioner bottles, and quite a bit of travel sized items. I have given away a few things and set aside a few items that can be donated. I'm going through my apartment room by room and re-organizing everything. If you watched my Instagram story(ies?) today then you witnessed my surge of energy as I went through my bedroom and part of the living room. I also managed to do my linen closet a few weeks ago and am working on using up everything I have. The number of soaps and lotions I have... It is ridiculous. Even cleaning supplies. A mess I tell you! I have already gone through all of my dressers and clothes, but I still feel like I can do another sweep and minimize more. I wear pretty much the same few outfits anyway, so why hold onto something I haven't reached for, and probably never will? I still have to sort out my shoes, my babies, but I keep pushing them off, and I know I need to do it soon. If I had to guess, I have probably 50+ pairs of shoes. Which to be fair, is not a lot compared to some people... :D
In an effort to organize myself, I finally put some of my posters and artwork up on my walls. I've been in this apartment for over a year and am just now personalizing it. I really wish I could paint the walls, but I'll make do with accessorizing it in other ways. I need to find a better color scheme. My current navy + grey + black is very boring and feels like it is missing something. It needs some... oomph, some life. If you have any ideas, I'd like to hear them!
I'll touch base with you at the end of the month and see how I'm doing on my No Buy and Project Empty.
