I've had many skin care routines over the years, but my latest and longest obsession have been sheet masks. It started years ago when I got an SK-II sheet mask in a sample box. I tried several brands over the years since the SK-II ones are quite spendy, even if they give fantastic results. I've always leaned more towards the masks you can rub the leftover essence in versus others that you had to rinse off. Its partly being lazy, and partly because it felt like a waste to rinse off all the good stuff. The Hada Labo Tokyo masks came pretty close at a much lower price point. I eventually fell in love with the Tony Moly Snail Hydrogel Mask and alternated with those. There was a huge increase in popularity of Korean/Asian beauty recently. This meant that not only were there more brands popping up, they were more accessible. But there were also other brands adapting to the trends and coming out with their own versions. Enter: Garnier Skin Active sheet masks.
I was wandering the aisles of Shopper's Drug Mart in Vancouver (side note - I LOVE Shoppers!) when I caught out of the corner of my eye, these Garnier masks. I was instantly curious and wasn't sure if I had seen them in the states before. (They are available in the states.) They were on sale, and with the exchange rate, they ended up being roughly $2 USD each. I picked up all 6 types and was excited to try them out. I used the chamomile mask first because it said "deeply hydrates, comforts and soothes skin" which I thought was necessary with all the travel I'd been doing. I won't lie to you, I had very low expectations for this mask since it wasn't an Asian brand. I also have very little knowledge of most drugstore skincare. But to my surprise, the Garnier mask was awesome! The results are very comparable to the Tony Moly and Hada Labo, if not better. I woke up in the morning refreshed, with blemishes reduced, and GLOWING. I kid you not, I was shocked at how great my skin looked. I was definitely hooked and stopped over to pick up a few more before I went home.
After trying all 6, I have to say the charcoal and tea tree are my favorites. They leave my skin matte (but alive!) and haven't irritated me at all. They all smell wonderful and aren't too overbearing. The masks themselves are larger than most sheet masks, which I prefer. I'm not a slim jawn, so having a bigger mask means I get better coverage. The only quibble I have with these is the blue plastic that is folded into the masks. I know its to help unfold and position the mask, but I find it unnecessary and wasteful. As with most masks, these come with enough leftover essence in the packet that you could use the essence for another night. Depending on my mood, I will either save it or use it on my arms/legs. You can't really go wrong either way.
These masks have made me curious about the Garnier Skin Active line and I may pick up a few things to try when I run out of my current skincare supplies. The sheet masks are definitlye a staple in my routine and I'm happy that I can run out to CVS and snatch these up when I'm running low. Convenience + Price makes me a happy girl.
