Hey y’all. It’s been awhile since I did anything skincare related. (Which reminds me that I should do an updated skincare post.) Anyway, I’d been seeing the ads all over Facebook and Instagram for Blume’s Meltdown acne oil. My skin has been doing very well, with occasional breakouts during my period. I’ve been doing my best to maintain my slightly tedious skincare routine, so I have very few issues. I decided to pull the plug on buying Meltdown because I wanted to see how well it would do during my period breakouts. It is, after all, being marketed with their period boxes. I was also intrigued since they promote self care, aren’t shying away from period talk, and are doing positive things for women. I submitted my order and within 3 days, Meltdown was on its way to me. I had hoped for faster shipping, but I only paid $3 so I shouldn’t expect miracles. It took a week and a half before it was in my mailbox, but it arrived intact. No leaks, and in a pretty rose gold metallic bubble envelope. I know it’s 15 ml (0.5 oz) but the slim packaging makes it feel smaller than I imagined (at least compared to Luna Night oil’s 15 ml.) For the price difference though, Meltdown is a better value - $26 vs $55.
According to Blume’s website, Meltdown is a “spot treatment for pimples, breakouts and blemishes.” It is supposed to:
I whipped it out to use the same night I got it. I was about to start my period and noticed some small pimples and whiteheads forming. I didn’t have very high hopes for this, as it is a blend of different oils and pretty much all natural. The only thing I had semi high hopes for was the Blue Tansy oil, since that’s an ingredient also in my Luna Night oil that I also love. I followed my normal routine - cleanse and tone - and used Meltdown in place of my nightly moisturizer. I know it says spot treatment, but I figured using it all over my face wouldn’t be a bad thing. It is a lighter and more runny oil, so a few quick drops on my face ran down to my neck before I could even put the bottle down. It absorbed in almost immediately after I rubbed it into my face. I didn’t feel oily or dehydrated, and I wasn’t super shiny. I will say - the smell of lavender is VERY strong. I don’t particularly like it, but I am getting used to it. Within a few minutes of rubbing it in, the scent dies down a bit. Just be careful if you are sensitive to scents.
When I woke up in the morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see the pimples were reduced in size, and some of the smaller ones were gone! It didn’t do much for the white heads, but I popped them (I know you’re not supposed to) and applied a little more of Meltdown as a spot treatment before putting on my daytime SPF moisturizer. Throughout the day I checked my face to see if I would be any oilier, but I am happy to report I was not. I’ve been using it every other night and occasionally as a spot treatment during the day, and it has not disappointed me. I’m glad I decided to take a chance on this!
Anyone else try Meltdown or any other Blume products?
